Calvin's pre-law program sponsors the biennial Pre-Law Day, alternating with the Pre-Law Program Trip to Chicago. The last Pre-Law Day was October 8, 2018. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be unable to offer Pre-Law Day in the fall of 2020 but hope to bring it back in 2021. The pre-law program sponsors a trip to Chicago every other year, alternating with Pre-Law Day at Calvin, which offers a number of interested Pre-Law students that opportunity to meet alumni attorneys in Chicago, attend a law school forum, and visit an area law school. Pre-Law Student Professionalism
Join a free Law School Admissions Council webinar on Wednesday March 24 from 3-4 pm (ET) that will focus on expectations and tips for applicants with regards to communicating professionally throughout the admissions process. As you prepare for your law school enrollment journey, it is important to know not just how to navigate the application process, but how to conduct yourself professionally as you interact with admission representatives and other members of your prospective law school community. A panel of admission deans from law schools will discuss topics such as: how should you respond to scenarios like being waitlisted? how can you draft a scholarship appeal? are there different expectations for in-person versus virtual conversations?
Online Michigan State University Webinars
Online presentations of between 20 and 45 minutes focusing on a range of topics likely to be of interest to prospective law students. Webinars include a Q and A segment allowing participants the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters. Online Digital Law School Admissions Council Law School Forums
The LSAC (Law School Admissions Council) has made arrangements for 4 LSAC Digital Law School Forums this fall, given the pandemic restrictions that prohibit sponsoring on-site forums. You can still attend a Forum, taking advantage of a free opportunity to meet with representatives from over 100 law schools. Talk with actual admissions representatives from the schools to learn about the application process, financial aid, legal specialties and more. the digital forums are scheduled for the following dates, and participants are required to register in advance -- for more information and to register, go to the LSAC website.
Midwest Association Pre-Law Advisors' Law Caravan
On Wednesday, October 28 (5-8pm), the MAPLA will host a free virtual law school forum including more than 100 law schools from around the country. Register here to attend the event, talk with admissions representatives as a group, or in scheduled one-on-one sessions. You will need a Handshake account to sign-up and to participate in scheduled appointments and/or attend live video information sessions. You can use the Linkedin Profile Checklist to build a profile that law school representatives can see to get to know you better, and also visit these Handshake links to learn about how to navigate a virtual fair.
Law and Legal Education and the Challenges of 2020
The LSAC (Law School Admissions Council) sponsors Live with Kellye & Ken which features conversations with people who have inside information about law school, legal careers, and more. On Monday, August 31 from 4-5pm, the show will feature Stanford Law School Dean Jenny Martinez, a leading expert on international and constitutional law, as well as a formidable litigator as well as the author of The Slave Trade and the Origins of International Human Rights Law and numerous influential articles. She will explore the role of law and legal education at this complex time in our world, whether this is a good time to go to law school, whether the legal profession has a special role to play amid the challenges our nation and our world are currently facing, and more. This is a free program, but you must register in advance.
Navigating the Law School Admissions Process
The University of Akron School of Law has a virtual series to provide you with information on how to get your law school applications started, advice on preparing for and taking the LSAT, drafting a meaningful and impactful personal statement, and tips on law school admissions. These are free programs, but you must register in advance.
