The Japanese program at Calvin offers course options to fulfill core requirements in addition to a 42-credit major and two minors. One minor focuses on Japanese language study while the other combines language study with studies in culture.
If you’re interested in broader studies of Asian culture and history, Japanese language courses can also contribute to an Asian studies degree.
The 42-credit hour Japanese major combines language courses with courses in Japanese culture to ensure you get a full experience in the program. You can also enhance your program and fulfill major requirements by studying abroad through the Japan Center for Michigan Universities.
This 27-credit hour minor focuses solely on Japanese language study, though cultural perspectives are a part of these courses as well.
Japanese Study Minor
This 25-credit hour minor combines introductory language study with elective options in art history, history, political science and/or religion to expand your study of the Japan to its history, culture and religion.
