Wilderness Trips
Friendships. Adventure. Challenge. Course Credit
Every summer, incoming students choose to begin their Calvin education by participating in an eight-day Wilderness Trip. Students share this intensive experience with a patrol of 10 to 14 fourteen others, and together these students explore their own limits, forge new friendships, and develop a new awareness of their creator. Wilderness Trip students are a part of a strong legacy; 1,400 students over the past 18 years have experienced a Wilderness Orientation trip and earned their first Calvin credit in the process.
Wilderness Trips can be enjoyed by students of all experience, fitness, and ability levels. Caring and well-trained leaders help students navigate new outdoor and college life experiences and assist students in setting goals for their first year at Calvin. All students will enjoy the emotional, physical, and spiritual rewards of successfully completing a vigorous adventure.
Trips offered August 16–23 will transition students directly from the Wilderness Trip to their residence halls for the fall semester. For students participating in other orientation programs or Calvin athletics, we offer three courses August 5–11. All trips will fill up by July 31, so please reserve your spot early.
