Join us each year on (or near) April 25, Gratitude Day, as we remember and honor Olivia Haverkamp by following her example and showing gratitude to the special people in our lives.

The Honors and Collegiate Scholars Program invites you to celebrate the special people in your life.

Celebrate Gratitude Day 2023 with us on April 13!

To celebrate Gratitude Day, the Honors community will be hosting a “Send a Note of Gratitude” table at Peet’s from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on April 13. Calvin community members will be able to write messages in Gratitude Day note cards and postcards designed by our very own Annaliese Holcomb.

About Olivia

In March of 2017 Olivia Haverkamp was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer. She refused to be defined by her disease and provided cancer no more shelf space than she thought it deserved (not much). During the almost three years that Olivia had cancer, she hiked to Machu Picchu, snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, attended dances, delivered speeches, earned a full-tuition college scholarship, and participated in the Calvin Honors Scholars program. These activities highlight Olivia's adventurous spirit, commitment to academic pursuits, and determination to live life wholeheartedly.

Another characteristic that defined Olivia was the sincere gratitude, appreciation, and kindness that she showed to others throughout her life. It is this characteristic that we celebrate on Gratitude Day!
