Interested in participating in an exchange off-campus semester program? The checklist below will walk you through the application process.

1. Confirm your eligibility

To participate in a Calvin Exchange off-campus semester program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have sophomore status or higher
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Be up-to-date with all your vaccinations, including the COVID vaccine
You must first complete an online application for Calvin and then talk with the director of off-campus programs.

2. Note the deadlines

Take careful note of any application or other deadlines for your program. Although exact dates can vary, exchange programs in the fall semester often have an application deadline in mid-March, while spring semester programs often have a deadline of June 1.

Important note: Be sure to give yourself enough time to complete the application process for the program you are choosing. Remember that although the Calvin application is online, it can take several days to complete, as you have to wait for various approvals across campus. Other steps in the applicaton process may require extra time as well.

Note: Students participating in exchange programs pay Calvin tuition plus the Off-Campus Programs and Wellness fee. In most cases, students pay room and board directly to the host institution. Contact the Off-Campus Programs office for specific information about costs and fees related to the project you're applying to.

4. Complete the application

Once you are accepted for a program, it is important that you communicate your acceptance and status to Calvin’s Off-Campus Programs office.

5. Immigration

Once you have been admitted, your information will be shared with the Immigration Coordinator. They will process the paperwork (DS-2019) that you will need to schedule your visa appointment. The DS-2019 form will be emailed to you at the email address you provide on your application. Please note that visa processing times will vary for each country.
