Dr. Verhey's work has focused on the application of Christian ethics, especially in the area of medical and health practice. He has published widely and is the author, editor or co-editor of 12 books; Reading the Bible in the Strange World of Medicine is his latest. After graduating from Yale Divinity School in 1975, he taught for over 30 years in the Religion Department at Hope College before finishing his career as the Robert Earl Cushman Professor of Christian Theology at Duke Divinity School.Allen wrote or co-authored several books, contributed essays to numerous books and journals, and lectured all over the country and around the world. Among his students and colleagues, he was known for his humility, generosity, and kindness.
