Study Physiology at the University of Michigan through a special partnership between Calvin and Michigan's Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology.

Each summer 2 summer research internships are reserved specifically for Calvin students in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. This opportunity is provided through the generosity of Dr. Dan Michele, a graduate of Calvin, who is on the faculty at U of M.  One of the fellowships is funded by Dr. Michele’s department and the other by the Calvin biology department. Below is a copy of the e-mail we received from Dr. Michele. It describes 2 programs, one in the Cardivascular Center (CVC)  and the other in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. Calvin students might be placed in either program. Read the instructions carefully.

This is a wonderful gift to Calvin students as everyone else who applies to these prestigious programs competes nationwide. Every Calvin student who has participated in these programs and subsequently applied to medical school at Michigan has been accepted.

Note that you only need to apply to the CVC program. Having sent that application, apply to the other program by sending an e-mail to Dr. Michele at  dmichele@umich.edu  When your apply please also inform Professor Ubels that you have done so. jubels@calvin.edu

The application deadline is January 31, 2016.  If you are going off campus for interim you need to work on this during vacation. You need letters of recommendation so request them soon and let the falculty member know that this is an urgent request. Sorry for short notice. We just receive the information below today (12/21/15).

Apply

This year's application deadline has passed.

Applications are due by Sunday January 31, 2016.

The application deadline is January 31, 2015.  If you are going off campus for interim you need to work on this during vacation. You need letters of recommendation so request them soon and let the falculty member know that this is an urgent request. Sorry for short notice. We just receive the information below today (12/21/15).

Here is the information from Dr. Michele on the research programs:

The University of Michigan Samuel & Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center is pleased to announce our 2015 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program is now accepting applications.  This fellowship program will provide up to sixteen full-time summer research opportunities at the University of Michigan for talented undergraduate students interested in cardiovascular research. Our website, http://sites.google.com/site/cvcsummerfellowship/, has more information on the fellowship program and the application process.

Specifically for Calvin students this year, we will have students submit just one application for the CVC Fellowship and additional Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Programs in the Physiology department.  Students interested and eligible for the research programs in the Physiology department can find information about those programs here:

https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/molecular-integrative-physiology/education/undergraduate-opportunities

Calvin students do not have to submit a second application to the Molecular and Integrative Physiology program.  They can just send me an email with the program(s) they are interested in and the top three faculty in those programs whose research labs they are in.  I will then forward their CVC applications on to those fellowship programs as the applications are very similar.
