The Library is still open

Visit the 4th and 5th floors of Hekman Library to access library services and find a quiet place to work or study.

Here’s how to enter the library and access pathways.

From the south or east side of campus:

Coming from the south or east side of campus (i.e. places like the walkway from the business school or the campus road near the chapel), you can access the library at the south main entrance located adjacent to the Meeter Center.

From the west side of campus:

Coming from the west side of campus (i.e. places like Spoelhof University Center or residence halls) you can access the library by entering Hiemenga Hall entrances near the chapel plaza or Commons Lawn.

CFAC lot parking information:

As a reminder, parking will still be available in the lot adjacent to the CFAC, but the lot will be divided into two sides; one accessible by the north driveway and the other accessible by the south driveway.

The Hekman Library is open during renovations. Visitors can enter via Hiemenga Hall or from the Calvin Seminary near the Meeter Center Lecture Hall.


Hekman Library (Commons Union Phase 1) construction projects are currently underway.

Phase 1

The Hekman Library renovations (Commons Union Phase 1) will provide new space for:

  • Campus Ministries,
  • the Career Center,
  • Career Services,
  • the Center for Student Success,
  • the Center for Intercultural Student Development,
  • TRIO Programming,
  • the Coordinator for Sexuality Programming and Student Support,
  • Campus Involvement and Leadership,
  • the CIT Helpdesk,
  • Honors and Cohort Programs,
  • the Service-Learning Center,
  • Student Senate,
  • Chimes,
  • Dialogue,
  • Nexus Peer Financial Coaching,
  • and other students organizations.

The renovation will also provide create large gathering and study spaces for students. Heritage Hall will remain on the 200 level, adjacent to renovated spaces for learning and collaboration.

The 300 level of the library will feature updated library staff offices, new circulation and reference desks, Calvin’s Rhetoric Center, a new computer classroom, updated group study rooms, and additional seating and study spaces for library visitors.

Demolition and construction on the 100, 200, and 300 levels of the library and Hiemenga Hall will begin in early September of 2023. Library staff and resources have been relocated to the fourth and fifth floors of Hekman Library for the duration of the 2023–2024 academic year.
