David Broder discusses "An End-of-the-Century Appraisal of our Politics and Government."

Called "the high priest of political journalism," David Broder is one of the nation's most respected and recognizable political reporters. Washington Post columnist and regular commentator on CNN's "Inside Politics" and NBC's "Meet the Press," Mr. Broder says as we near the end of the 20th century, the U. S. grapples with legacies of our 18th century founders, including a Constitution which makes tyranny impossible but action on pressing problems very difficult. Mr. Broder says the challenges of a new era, from the retirement and healthcare costs of our aging population to the education of oncoming generations in technology and survival skills, raise important questions about how well our politicians, our political parties, our press, and our whole system of government are doing. Mr. Broder says change is certain, but we must be careful about the remedies we seek.
