Addiction is usually understood as a problem of runaway desire.
Dr. Sripada will argue that addiction instead involves distorted representations--of one’s worth, of the future, of one’s ability to cope, and of the pleasures and costs of using drugs. This "distortion model" addresses two central puzzles about addiction.
