Ekkens is an entrepreneur who is passionate about improved global communication and innovative learning technologies.  As the internal consultant for inclusion and diversity at Spectrum, her responsibilities include leading the design and execution of learning and performance initiatives focused on building a culturally competent health care system for over 21,000 employees. Her work has recently been highlighted in Spark and the Grand Rapids Business Journal.

Leading both non-profits and for-profits, Kristin has worked with more than 75 organizations to develop learning solutions focused on bridging cultural and linguistic gaps. Her workplace learning initiatives have received multiple awards for quality and innovation including international exposure in a 2008 broadcast of ABC World News Tonight with Charles Gibson and recognition in 2011 as a best practice by Singapore Workforce Development Agency.

Kristin has a master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Michigan State University, and a BA in Spanish and Linguistics from Calvin College. She is an advanced certified CQ Facilitator through the Cultural Intelligence Center.  Kristin enjoys sharing stories and lessons learned from her global travels and living abroad, including time in Spain, Mexico and Costa Rica. Yet some of Kristin's best stories come from right here in the U.S., featuring her two sons and husband.
