New Native Garden Planting Event

  • Saturday, September 22, 2018
  • 1:00 PM–4:00 PM
  • Bunker Interpretive Center
  • FREE

We have been busy amending soil, adjusting slopes, laying sidewalks, are in the process of placing irrigation, and will be mulching shortly – PHEW! A large portion of our new native demonstration garden is prepped, and we are ready to start installing our new plants. Now comes the fun part! You have an opportunity to be part of something special and give life to the garden beds by aiding us with planting. We’ll be populating these four new natural habitats: oak savannah, tall grass prairie, rain garden, and pollinator garden.

It is going to require several thousand plants to fill and complete this section of the garden, so we will joyfully accept all the help we can find. Bring a friend and spend some time together, or come and meet a new friend, or gather a group of your ecology-minded cohorts.

As a thank you to our hard-working volunteers, we’ll be providing a meal during each planting event. Plus, you’ll get a sneak peek of the redesigned gardens under development.

Planting events are open to anyone aged 10 and up; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We will be working near a construction zone, so for safety no one under 10 years old will be allowed on site.

REGISTER: Please register BY NOON the day before the event to help us plan. Walk-ins are welcome, but we are not able to guarantee a meal. Please note: If you are registering more people than yourself, you will need to specify dietary restrictions, accept a waiver, and provide an emergency contact for each person.

BRING: Your own work gloves and hand trowel to use; otherwise, we will have some for volunteers to borrow. We do recommend sunscreen, pants, closed-toe shoes and a water bottle.
