  • Helpful information about Siblings Weekend

Your registration fee covers any and all meals in the dining halls beginning Friday dinner through Saturday dinner and admission to all of the Sibling Weekend sponsored events. The Rangeela performances on Friday and Saturday are not included.

Your online registered sibling(s) will be given a personalized Siblings Weekend ID card. This card is needed to get siblings into the dining halls for meals and all of the sibling weekend sponsored activities. Siblings Weekend t-shirts are available for purchase and can be used during our tie-dye event on Saturday.

A special discounted registration fee of $6 is available for siblings of Calvin students who live off-campus or to those who prefer not to eat in the dining hall. This special registration fee covers all activity options, including bowling, on campus movies, craft, tie-dye, etc.

What happens after we register online? Do we have to check in somewhere when we arrive?

After completing the online registration, the person registering the sibling will receive a confirmation email with helpful information. This email will also be copied to the Calvin student host. The official ID card(s) for meals and activities plus the complete schedule of events will be available at the student life office beginning at noon on Friday, Feb. 28. Your sibling/guest does not need to be present—you are encouraged to stop by any time between 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to pick up the materials prior to their arrival.

Friday after 5 p.m. and Saturday morning at 9 a.m., on-site registration will be available at the Rooks Van Dellen Residence Hall front desk for $30 with meals and $16 without meals. (Cash or check only, please.)

    Where do siblings sleep?

Sack out on your brother’s couch or in a sleeping bag on your sister’s. floor. If you are a girl over the age of eleven, you need to stay overnight in a woman’s room and boys over eleven must in a man’s room. Calvin students are responsible for arranging their siblings sleeping accommodations. However, Resident Assistants are available to help with this.

    What should siblings bring?

Bring a sleeping bag and pillow, warm clothes, and a toothbrush. You might also consider extra money for off-campus activities or late-night pizza, and any items related to the options for the weekend, such as gym clothes, swimming suits, or ice skates. SW t-shirts to tie-dye at the tie-dye party on Saturday morning (sold at the event for $10) can be charged to your miscellaneous account.

Is this only for younger siblings?

All siblings are welcome, and there is a regularly scheduled Fridays at Calvin program on Friday, so older siblings might want to combine their visit. Some of the events during Siblings Weekend are geared more for younger siblings, but most are appropriate for all ages. Older siblings often find it easier to hang out with their Calvin sibling without being involved in as many planned activities.

If the sibling will only be there for a portion of the weekend, is there a discount?

Rather than pricing things individually, we've gone with the "package deal" for the last several years, and it provides a great value for most siblings (and is the easiest for us to administrate). If your sibling is only here for one meal and is not staying overnight or attending any activities, you could register online or on site for $6—meals not included. If you register late, on site, cost is increased to $16.

Where should my sibling park if they drive to campus?

Cars may be parked overnight in the Prince Conference Center as well as lot 8 or 13 here on campus.

If you have individual questions, we'd be happy to discuss this in person. Call Robin Zylstra at (616) 526-6948 or email rjz2@calvin.edu.

Siblings must attend with their Calvin Student and show their Siblings Weekend ID to participate in activities. Pre-registration sign up is recommended for the climbing wall - signed (waiver required) to be able to climb.
