CALL Lecture - On the Ballot: Gerrymandering

Speakers: Doug Koopman and Emily Helder

On the November 2018 ballot, voters in Michigan will be able to vote on a new way to draw the lines among state and congressional districts. The anti-gerrymandering ballot initiative came from a remarkably rapid volunteer-led effort, and addressed the increasingly publicized issue of how the lines of legislative districts reward the political party in power. This Noontime Series lecture will provide a broader history of the gerrymander and specific information about the choice facing the state’s voters later in this fall.

Dr. Doug Koopman is a Calvin professor of political science whose academic specialties are American political institutions and religion in American politics. Dr. Emily Helder is an associate professor of psychology at Calvin and a clinical neuropsychologist.

Sponsored by the Calvin Academy for Lifelong Learning; this lecture series is free and open to the public
