Tour Leaders

Gary Schmidt is co-chair and professor of English at Calvin. He is a prolific author of children's literature and young adult fiction who recently contributed to the Star Wars anthology From A Certain Point of View: Star Wars (2017) through writing the only chapter from Yoda's point of view. Originally from New England, Gary regularly leads the New England Saints interim course in January.

Debra Freeberg is director of theatre and professor of communication arts and sciences at Calvin. Her academic interests include playwriting and directing, Scandinavian Theatre, and children’s theatre. She has directed numerous performances with the Calvin Theatre Company, including Sense and Sensibility, Arabian Nights, and The Philadelphia Story.
