Evolutionary Consequences of the Reproduction-Locomotion Nexus on Human Sexual Dimorphism

  • Friday, May 5, 2017
  • 1:30 PM–2:30 PM
  • Science Building 010

Cara Wall-Scheffler, Associate Professor of Biology, Seattle Pacific University

Wall-Scheffler's lecture will discuss how energy consumption, water loss, and thermoregulation are limiting features of human reproduction, particularly for human females; during locomotion each of these variables are stressed. Certain morphological features (in additional to physiological differences) aid females in minimizing the costs associated with these variables and allow them successful pregnancies and post-partum nursing.
