Cancer Ed: Tools For Teaching Kids About Cancer

CancerEd began in 2013 when Professor Amy Wilstermann and her research students found a lack of teaching materials about cancer targeted to children. They focused on developing curriculum that: introduces children to the basic scientific concepts of cancer, teaches about the most common types of cancers, presents information about cancer treatments, and lastly helps children find ways to care for others with cancer. The CancerEd project has since grown to include parent and teacher surveys and focus groups, 14+ lesson plans for grades K-5, curricula that meets state education standards, supplementary materials, teaching guides, a comprehensive resource library for children, parents, educators, and more.
