  • Fits with anything Lots of Calvin students pair a Spanish degree with STEM, pre-med, and other programs--and still graduate in four years.

  • Global opportunities Studying abroad is a key part of the Spanish experience at Calvin. Spend a month or a whole semester studying in places like Mexico, Spain, or Peru.

  • Meaningful local connections With 29,000 Hispanics living in Grand Rapids (that's about 16% of the city's population!), you can discover ways to use your Spanish right here in the community.

  • Beyond the norm Branch out from grammar and language skills into cultural, literary, and justice questions.

Introduction

You’ve heard that adding a Spanish degree will make you more marketable in any job field. That’s certainly true. And as part of the Spanish community at Calvin, you’ll unlock amazing experiences that will enrich all aspects of your life.

Here’s just a glimpse: every Spanish major at Calvin studies abroad. You’ll live with a family in Arequipa, Peru. Take classes in the mountains of Spain at the University of Oviedo. Study language and culture in the tropical climate of Honduras. Your off-campus experience will be led by Calvin professors and you’ll travel with fellow Calvin students.

Back in Michigan, you’ll keep making connections and unlocking opportunities with your mastery of Spanish. Find mentors or an internship in west Grand Rapids’s vibrant local Hispanic community. Sharpen your Spanish speaking skills with a native speaker in a conversation group, celebrate at the annual Hispanic Festival downtown, or worship at Spanish chapel. All of this adds up to a degree that’s practical, interesting, and eye-opening.
