Elementary Education Grade Bands

Undergraduate Program On Campus

What You'll Learn

You know every child deserves a chance to succeed. At Calvin, you'll learn how to open the door to their success.

An elementary education major from Calvin prepares you to guide students across a range of disciplines. Be equipped as a storyteller. A scientist. A math whiz. World-class professors will help you discover how children develop and learn. You will get into classrooms early and often to put those theories into practice.

Calvin's elementary education program is separated into two grade bands, Pre-Kindergarten to 3rd Grade and 3rd to 6th Grade. These two grade bands can be earned independently to specialize in lower or upper elementary or combined to span the elementary years.

At Calvin, you will learn from experts in a wide variety of disciplines with vast experiences in the field of teaching. Local schools partner with Calvin to provide tiered field experiences that develop skills ranging from leading small groups to managing a classroom. Our program not only prepares you to be an effective teacher, it equips you to begin your career with confidence, believing you can make a difference in young lives.

Areas of focus

There are two areas of focus within this program:

What Makes This Program Great

  • Academics: As you journey through Calvin's rigorous program, you will be known and well supported by professors who go the extra mile to invest in their students.
  • Internships: At Calvin, you will have numerous opportunities to apply what you learn on campus to the classroom through scaffolded field experiences, beginning your freshman year and continuing throughout the program.
  • Faith: We believe faith shapes practice and practice shapes faith. In Calvin's program, you will learn to incorporate faith into teaching practices, refining students' lives with intentional actions that have a big impact over time.
