Advising
You'll work with your faculty advisor to choose the computing-related major that's most appropriate you, and to build out a course schedule that fulfills the requirements of that program. You'll meet at least once per semester, shortly before advising recess, to prepare for course registration for the next semester. Please view your advisor as an ally for your years at Calvin who will help you monitor your academic progress, connect you with research and/or internship opportunities, and help prepare you to flourish in life after Calvin!
Two other important people to know:
- Chris Wieringa (SB 319) is the system engineer who manages the labs and systems for the CS Department.
- Mark Breitenbach (SB 148) is the department administrator who manages the general logistics, events, student graders, etc. for the CS Department.
If you're a new student, you can consult this first-year guide on charting your academic course for details on Calvin-wide requirements and resources. As a computer science student, you can start your planning with one of our suggested, four-year course schedules, which we provide for all of Calvin's CS programs on the program pages themselves, and build out a full, four-year program in WorkDay. You can tailor your program to your own interests, basing your schedule on these course-availability tables.
