Items submitted by your school counselor
When you complete your application, your school counselor will be prompted to send us an updated transcript, submit a recommendation form, and review your requested course(s) to make sure it's a good fit.
Send AP scores
If the course you want has AP pre-requisites (i.e. Spanish Immersion and AP Calculus) send us your AP scores as soon as possible during the summer, prior to orientation. Email to admissions@calvin.edu. If you listed Calvin when you took the AP test, you don't need to send scores separately.
Courses and registration
After you have been notified of your admission, contact the Registrar's Office (registrar@calvin.edu, 616-526-6155), tell them you are a dually enrolled student, and register for your course(s).
You can also contact the Registrar's Office for advice on which course(s) would be best to take and are available to dually enrolled students.
- For courses with a corresponding lab, both the lab section and class must fit within the student's high school schedule.
- Dual enrollment students are not eligible to take Speech Pathology and Audiology or Business classes.
- Some courses, especially 200+ level, may have pre-requisites.
Our collection of hand-picked courses developed for a high-quality, asynchronous, online experience might be the perfect fit for you. Each course lasts a full semester (16 weeks).
Available online courses:
- Academic Transitions 111 (2 credit hours): Academic Transitions will walk you through all kinds of practical skills you’ll need to thrive in college and the theory behind them: how to keep organized and stay motivated, how to take notes and read texts, how to study effectively and more. Master these skills before you start university to save time, energy and worry.
- (Fall Semester only) Communication 101 (4 credit hours): Effective oral communication is one of the top skills all employers look for in employees. In this course, you will learn the fundamental skills of oral rhetoric—how to create a message strategically adapted for a specific audience and situation. You will also learn how to effectively deliver your speeches and how to be an engaged, thoughtful listener.
- (Fall Semester only) Finance 201 (4 credit hours): Personal finance is a specialized area of study focusing on individual and household financial decisions: How much should I save, spend, and give? Financial planning is a process of setting financial goals and making decisions to achieve these goals, in an environment of risk. This class will consider financial goals for Christians and will provide information to help students be good stewards of what God entrusts to them.
Spanish Immersion
Have you been enrolled in a Spanish Immersion program in your school? Calvin partners with multiple schools to offer advanced, college-level Spanish courses as the next step.
Costs and tuition reimbursement
Costs per credit hour (up to 8 credits):
- 2025-2026: $350
- 2026-2027: $364

Many students can take 4 credits at no cost
Many students in the State of Michigan are eligible to take up to four dual‑enrollment credits at no charge per semester through the State of Michigan dual‑enrollment reimbursement program. Eligibility depends on the student’s school, course selection, and enrollment details:
- If your course (up to 4 credit hours) meets the State of Michigan’s dual-enrollment reimbursement requirements, you will not receive a bill.
- After the first four credit hours, or if your course does not qualify for state reimbursement, you will be billed at the start of the semester.
- If the student does not complete the course, you will not be eligible for reimbursement. In the case of a withdrawal, you will be responsible for the costs associated with the coursework taken.

- After the first four credit hours, or if your course does not qualify for state reimbursement, you will be billed at the start of the semester.
- Your school must confirm that it will pay Calvin University at least the State of Michigan reimbursement amount.
- Calvin will bill the school directly, and the school will be reimbursed by the State through established reimbursement channels. (This is noted in the recommendation form submitted by the school as part of the your admissions materials.)
- If the student does not complete the course, you will not be eligible for reimbursement. In the case of a withdrawal, you will be responsible for the costs associated with the coursework taken.
These students do not qualify for reimbursement and will receive a bill at the beginning of the semester that includes the terms of payment.
