Research Opportunities
Deepen your knowledge of sociology and gain valuable work experience.
- Assist a professor with their active research project.
- Apply to become a McGregor Summer Research fellow. You’ll assist a professor with research and earn a stipend.
- Sociology and Social Work students will take Social Research where they will be introduced to the field of qualitative research and participate in a semester-long project that has real-life implications for Calvin community or city of Grand Rapids.
Internships and Field Work
Apply your knowledge in the real world.
- Find an internship with the help of Calvin’s Career Center.
- Apply for a for-credit internship as a senior in the course, SOC 380 - Internship in Sociology. You’ll work in a local organization under the direction of an on-site supervisor.
- Once accepted into the program, Social work students will complete a 400-hour practicum with an agency that matches your interests. You’ll practice assessment, intervention, and evaluation skills with individuals, groups, and families, and will gain experience in policy work, advocacy, research, and community organization.
- Students can also complete their internship through an off-campus semester program in Chicago, Washington D.C., or Uganda.
