Living on Calvin's campus is fun, diverse, challenging, and supportive.
This video and the following details help describe life in a residence hall, guidance for roommate success, the housing application process, and community support.
Residence Halls
Learn what to expect living in the dorms.
Each residence hall has a lobby and entryway where you can hang out, check your mail, and see posters and announcements about what's going on around campus.
Each floor has a shared hangout space with a kitchen, a public restroom, and 30-40 residents forming the core community.
Rooms in the residence halls are suite-style, with a shared bathroom between two rooms. The furniture (beds, dressers, shelves, desks) is stackable can be arranged in different ways, like bunked or lofted beds.
Residence halls provide cleaning supplies, free laundry, study spaces, and spots to relax or spend time with friends.
Resident Assistants (RAs) live on your floor and are there to build community, answer questions, and support you throughout the year. Other students in the residence hall are part of the leadership team that helps plan events, support spiritual growth, and more.

Roommates
Learn how to choose a roommate, or how one is chosen for you.
You’ll complete a housing application to share your preferences and living style—even if you already have a roommate in mind.
If you don’t request a specific roommate, Calvin will match you with someone based on your responses to create a compatible living situation.
A great roommate situation sometimes means you are or will become best friends, but not always. Sometimes the best arrangements are simply compatible people who live well together.
Great roommate relationships are built on communication, compromise, and cooperation.

Moving In
What to expect, how to prepare, and arrival day.
There is a general move-in day for new students, but some groups like fall athletes and international students have a different move-in day. We'll give you your assigned date, so check your email and New Student Portal.
There's a packing list on the Moving In page. Student often recommend bringing some extras to personalize your space, like rugs, lamps, decorations, games, a mini fridge, and snacks.
Move-in is exciting, busy, and sometimes a little chaotic. We have tons of staff and student volunteers helping to haul your belongings into the dorm.
It’s also the start of your Calvin experience! You’ll meet your RA, connect with your roommate, set up your furniture (don't worry—you can always rearrange), and begin settling into your new space and community.
