Four Phases of Professional Development

  • Discover your unique strengths and God’s calling for your life through assessments like StrengthsFinder or Pathway U.
  • Set your path for success by reviewing your personal, professional, and academic goals with your academic advisor.
  • Explore leading and being part of a team through class projects in Management and Organizational Behavior.
  • Take charge of your money by create a budget with the help of a Nexus Peer Financial Coach, and get a handle on credit, loans and smart spending in Personal Finance. 
  • Learn networking skills through the Calvin LifeWork module, events that connect you with business professionals, and part-time job opportunities on Handshake.
  • Build your professional network by connecting with guest speakers in classes like Management and Organizational Behavior or Personal Finance.
  • Enhance your online presence by creating a LinkedIn profile in your Special Topics in Marketing course and taking professional headshots, available to all students through Women's Business Network. 
  • Create a resume and practice your interview skills, either face-to-face with a Career Coach or virtually through Optimal Resume.
  • Develop your teamwork abilities by participating in a student organization and expanding your understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion through courses like Psychology of Work.
  • Gain on-hands investment experience through Knight Investment Management by making impactful decisions with real money and client expectations.
  • Master personal branding in your internship course to effectively showcase your skills and make a memorable impression on employers.
  • Expand your professional network through organizations such as American Marketing Association and the Society for Human Resource Management.
  • Enhance your career prospects with an internship at top companies like Amazon or Corewell Health.
  • Build lasting success habits and strategies to excel in your career through courses like Introduction to Operations and Supply Chain Management.

  • Gain real-world experience with top companies like SpartanNash or Steelcase through internships that set you apart from the competition. 
  • Plan for your future education by exploring graduate school opportunities.
  • Tackle real business challenges and gain valuable, practical skills by consulting for organizations such as Stryker through a Calvin Action Project. 
  • Be equipped to manage stress and prioritize personal well-being through skills learned in courses like Psychology of Work.
  • In your Business Capstone course, you’ll apply all the knowledge you’ve learned and many of the virtues developed throughout your business courses. You’ll participate in project-based learning where you’ll consult with fortune 500 businesses, locally owned and managed business or national and local non-profits to solve real business challenges.
