Resources

Our Clinic

Clinical services are provided by graduate student clinicians under close professional supervision by certified speech-language pathologists. Treatment is provided in individual and small group settings with a focus on developing functional communication skills. Although our clinic serves as a learning experience for the Calvin graduate students, it is our mission to provide quality, comprehensive speech and language pathology services.

Speech Therapy services are available at the Speech & Hearing Clinic, located in North Hall (parking map), at Calvin University; or virtually through a secure telehealth platform.

The Calvin Speech & Hearing Clinic is donation-based. Due to insurance regulations, the clinic cannot charge a set-fee for our professional services, but we do ask, if possible, that our clients invest in their treatment by supporting the speech clinic with a donation. See below for donation information.

Clients are scheduled for an entire semester and meet on the same scheduled day/time each week. Weekly attendance is important for successful treatment for the client as well as weekly clinical experience for the student. The policy for the clinic is that an absence of 3 or more sessions in a semester (or 2 during a shorter summer semester) may result in losing one’s time slot.

Spots in our Speech & Hearing Clinic are in high demand due to the quality of therapy we provide, combined with the fact that our clinic is donation-based. We maintain a waiting list year-round and will contact you as soon as we have a spot available, whether it is mid-semester, the next semester session, or several sessions in the future.

Adult Services

The speech-language pathology clinic at Calvin University offers services for adults with speech, language and/or cognitive challenges secondary to a stroke or traumatic brain injury. We provide these services in our Speech & Hearing Clinic during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

To apply for our Adult Speech Clinic, please fill out a case history form and submit it following the instructions included.

Pediatric Services

We provide speech-language pathology services for children with a variety of diagnoses, including delayed language, phonological/articulation impairments, autism spectrum disorders, fluency disorders, and other communication needs. The speech-language evaluation includes hearing screening.

Our Speech & Hearing Clinic provides preschool services on Monday and Wednesday mornings during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. There also are a limited number of sessions available for school-age children on selected afternoons. Summer sessions are available for preschool through school-age children.

To apply for pediatric speech services, please complete a pediatric case history form and submit it following the instructions included on the form.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy is another service that is offered at our clinic during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. This service is a collaboration with Western Michigan University. Families have the option of enrolling their child for only O.T., or for integrative speech and O.T. services. To apply for pediatric occupational therapy services, please fill out the WMU Questionnaire and submit it following the instructions included on the form.
