Multiple Calvin teams NCAA Bound

Tue, Nov 11, 2025

It’s not technically tradition, but like clockwork every year multiple Calvin athletic teams extend their fall seasons well into November. This year is no different. Men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country begin NCAA postseason action this coming weekend (November 14 & 15) at their respective regional tournaments and meets. (Note: The women’s volleyball team will find out if it’s NCAA Bound following the MIAA tournament this weekend.)

Consistent success

Calvin has seen much success on the national stage, claiming 11 NCAA Division III National Titles, 54 top four finishes, and 27 national runners-up. While those statistics are impressive in and of themselves, what situates Calvin as one of the premiere programs in all of Division III athletics is its commitment to holistic success, demonstrated by having 166 Academic All-Americans, which ranks the program within the Top 10 in Division III and in the Top 30 across all NCAA Divisions.

Women’s Soccer

Under the leadership of Coach Emily Ottenhoff, who just recorded her 100th career win, the Knights (14-4-0) enter the NCAA tournament on an 11-game winning streak dating back to September 27. They’ll take on Penn State Behrend (15-3-2) who has a lengthy 10-game winning streak of its own.

The Knights are hosting the four-team regional and play their opening round game at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 14 at Zuidema Soccer Field.

Men’s Soccer

Under the leadership of Coach Ryan Souders, the Knights (16-3-1) take a five-game winning streak into their opening round matchup with Grove City College (15-2-2) who is unbeaten over its previous 15 games. The Knights and Grove City played on September 20 on Calvin’s campus, but the game was canceled with 33 minutes left in regulation due to lightning. The Knights were leading at the time, 1-0.

The two teams will face off again at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 14 in a four-team regional hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York.

Men’s and women’s cross country

Under the leadership of Coach Nicole Kramer, the men’s and women’s cross country teams have both qualified for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Cross Country Regional Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. The women’s team enters the regional ranked #26 by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Both teams will race on Saturday, November 15, at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park (3000 Freys Hill Road, Louisville, Kentucky). The men’s 8K race begins at 10 a.m. The  women’s 6K race starts at 11 a.m.

Women’s volleyball

While the women’s volleyball team (23-3) hasn't yet punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament, they’ll have an opportunity to do so this weekend. Under the direction of Coach Amber Warners, who recorded her 700th career win this past weekend, the Knights will travel to Holland for the MIAA league tournament. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAAs. The Knights enter the tournament on an 11-game winning streak.
