Biography

My interest in the translation text of the Heidelberg Catechism began with my appointment, in the late 60's, to a committee of the Christian Reformed Church to make a new translation of the HC. That interest was kept alive in the 80's by another appointment to a committee to rid the text of the catechism, as much as possible, of gender discrimination. Synods accepted our recommendations. My latest interests are in presenting  translation(s) which are more alive and more in touch with the language of the time, more aware of change in word meaning,  less use of "stained glass" words, and more inviting to younger or other first-time readers.

My Heidelberg Catechism website contains many versions of my translations.
