Rachel Hyde

Counseling Intern

Biography

I enjoy working with college students because this season of life invites reflection and growth. Questions about identity, belonging, relationships, vocation, mental health, faith, and the future often arrive all at once. My hope is to walk alongside students as they make sense of their experiences, discover their strengths, and move toward the life they want to build. As a counselor-in-training, I strive to be someone who listens deeply, cares genuinely, and believes that growth is possible even in the midst of struggle.

I am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work with a clinical focus at Western Michigan University. For the past nearly three decades, I have worked as a creative director, designer, educator, and business owner. While I valued helping organizations communicate and connect with people, I found myself increasingly drawn to the deeper human experiences behind the work.

As a graphic designer and creative director, I helped organizations understand people, tell meaningful stories, and solve complex problems. The most fulfilling parts of my work were collaborating with others to achieve strategic goals that would improve lives in some way. At the same time, I have invested in my own personal growth through therapy. These experiences have taught me that meaningful change often happens when we feel safe enough to be honest about who we are, what isn’t working, and what we hope for. I believe every person has inherent dignity and worth, and I strive to create a space where everyone can bring their full selves without fear of judgment.

On the weekends, you’ll most likely find me on the trails or spending time with my husband and daughter. About five years ago, I took up mountain biking as a way to connect with nature, grow stronger, and cultivate resiliency. And I love talking about it!
