Dr. Paul Nagelkirk

Dean for the School of Health, Professor of Kinesiology

Biography

Dr. Paul Nagelkirk is Dean of the School of Health at Calvin University. In this role, he partners with leaders in the departments of Nursing, Kinesiology, Speech Pathology & Audiology, and Pre-Health Professions to prepare the next generation of leaders in health care. Prior to joining Calvin, Dr. Nagelkirk was Professor of Exercise Science and Chair of the School of Kinesiology at Ball State University, where he also directed the Integrative Exercise Physiology Laboratory.

Dr. Nagelkirk earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Calvin College in 1994. He went on to earn a master's degree in Cardiac Rehabilitation & Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University in 1998. Following graduate study, he worked as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and later as a Research Physiologist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. These professional experiences sparked a passion for clinical research and led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Kinesiology at Michigan State University, which he completed in 2005.

Academic Interests

 

Dr. Nagelkirk’ scholarly interests center on exercise physiology, cardiovascular health, and the role of physical activity in promoting health and well-being. His research has examined cardiovascular and hemostatic responses to exercise and nutritional interventions. His work has contributed to a greater understanding of how lifestyle factors influence health and chronic disease.
