Mychal Thom

After earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree at Oakland University in Rochester, MI, where he played basketball, Mychal began his teaching career at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Pontiac, MI. Next, he moved on to Muskegon Community College and, after just a year, he gained his Colloquy from Concordia University, Ann Arbor, and served as Principal of St. John Lutheran School in Rochester, Michigan.

In the spring of 2009, he was called as Head of School for Lutheran High North. After three years of service in Houston, in 2012, Mr. Thom was called to the Principal position at Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, IN, only the tenth Principal of the high school. And in 2016, he became Head of School. In 2021, Mychal accepted the call to be the Chief Diversity Officer at Concordia University St. Paul. While at CSP, he has served as CDO, Dean of the College of Business and Technology, and faculty member in Biology and Business. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Global Leadership from Indiana Tech University. In the Spring of 2026, Mychal assumed the role of President/CEO of Faith Lutheran Middle/High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

In addition, Mychal serves on the Board of the Association of Lutheran Secondary Schools and is the Vice Chairman of the Board for Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, MN. He serves as an instructor and coach with Principal 360 and is the senior faculty member of the Van Lunen Fellows Program. These two organizations promote and support visionary and executive leadership in Christian schools. In service to the church at large, Mychal has served as the keynote speaker at the LEA National Administrator Conference, Mid-South District Teachers Conference, the Florida/Georgia Educators’ Conference, and presented at the ALSS Conference. He was also the essayist at the Minnesota South District Convention in June 2025.

Mychal was a 2011-2012 Van Lunen Fellow and joined the faculty team in 2014.
