Come see the stars! Our observatory is located on the roof of Calvin University's Science Building. It can be accessed through the entrance from the Commons Lawn where the Science Building connects to North Hall. The dome is at the top of the stairway.
We are open on clear nights Monday-Wednesday during Calvin's school semester. (The Spring 2026 semester runs from January 20 through May 1. The observatory is closed for Spring break, March 9-13.) Our hours are 7:30 to 11 when Michigan is on Eastern Standard Time. After Daylight Saving Time starts (March 8), the hours are 1/2 hour after sunset until 11 pm.
In the Summer we are open 1/2 hour after sunset until midnight on Wednesdays only.
How can you be sure the sky is clear enough for the observatory to be open? Give us a call in the dome at 616-526-6435. If an observer answers, we are open!
