How do I register for classes?
Undergraduate students: After your first semester, you will register yourself for your classes online. To officially enroll in classes each semester, you are required to follow the steps below!
Tip! Click any link below for instructions on how to complete the step!
Search for classes & build your schedule
Undergraduate students should use Workday to Find Course Sections and create a draft Saved Schedule of specific course sections to register from and create backup schedules, if desired.
Tip! Don't ignore alerts on your Saved Schedule. If Workday sees you as ineligible for a class, you will need to submit a prerequisite override request - once the instructor has approved it, your alert should disappear.
How do I know what classes to take?
Meet with your advisor
Find who your advisor is in Workday. Meet with your advisor to discuss your degree plan and your desired course schedule for the upcoming semester. If you do not meet with your advisor, you will not be able to register.
Know your registration time
To find your registration time, see below and confirm your registration time in Workday. Registration time is determined by your total number of credits completed, not how many semesters you have been a student. Requests for exceptions and early registration are not considered.
Ensure you have no Registration Holds
Before the day you register, check that you have no active holds. Having an unpaid tuition or fees balance, failing to meet with your advisor, or failing to turn in required Health Services paperwork all can place a hold on your registration. At your registration time, if you have an active hold, a register button will never appear.
Register
Students officially register for their courses from their Saved Schedule at their registration time (find yours below) online through Workday. A register button should appear at your registration time on your Saved Schedule page, so long as you have no holds. Click the Register button, then go to Current Classes to see what you have registered for.
Sign up for your planned classes right at your registration time for the highest chance of receiving your preferred courses.
After you register
If you are waitlisted for courses, don't panic. For your major classes, know that within 1-3 weeks after registration, each department carefully reviews their course waitlists to allow in students who need the course to stay on track to graduate. You will be notified of the decision. Please contact your major advisor for questions about your major class waitlists - they may be able to advocate for you to the department or help you find class alternatives.
For core class waitlists, we encourage you to find and register for backup classes. To browse these options, utilize Find Course Sections in Workday - and then register for individual classes right from that page. Contact the Registrar's Office for any questions or assistance.
Schedule changes can be made on your own in Workday or by contacting us at the Registrar’s Office.
- Add a course only during your first week of classes (exact date varies).
- Drop without consequence by the 10th calendar day of the semester (for 16 week class).
- Withdraw (W on transcript) from a course through the ninth week of classes (for 16 week class).
Please check for the exact dates here: Academic Calendar and contact us for any clarification on these dates!
Tuition will remain unchanged if staying full time (12-18 credits). For other details, see Financial Services Refund Schedule.
Graduate students: To register for classes, you should contact your advisor (Who is my advisor?) or self-register through Workday (here's how - page 2).
