On Sunday, November 7, 2010, Johan Westra, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home. Westra ’52 taught at Calvin College for 27 years. He was the college’s first full-time political science professor. He also taught history and was a pre-law advisor for more than 20 years. One of the ways Johan and his late wife Wilma’s legacy lives on is through a named scholarship they established for a student either majoring in political science or who is in the pre-law program. Westra is a WWII veteran and is survived by his son John, daughter Kathryn and grandsons Joshua and Michael Westra. A public memorial service is planned at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 at the Holland Home Raybrook Chapel, located at 2121 Raybrook Ave. SE. Read GR Press obituary.
