Join Jerome Tryon, the 2026 Visiting Artist at Calvin University's Center Art Gallery, in exploring the architecture of memory!

What does it mean to draw something from memory? Can we ever draw from memory without changing what we remember? And when we try to reconstruct an image from the past, are we remembering it—or inventing it again?

Hear Jerome Tryon talk about his exhibition exploring memory—not as a fixed archive, but as something active, unstable, and constantly in motion. Through drawing, memory is translated into marks, and what emerges on the page is not a memory itself, but an act of remembering.

What changes when we try to picture a place we once knew? What details remain, and which ones do we unknowingly fill in? How much of what we see in the present is already being shaped by what we have seen before? Jerome will ask these questions and more in this rare opportunity to engage with the creative process of an artist whose work bridges disciplines.

Join us for a full week of talks, workshops, and more during Tryon's residency at Calvin November 2-6, 2026. And, join us immediately after the talk at the closing reception of the exhibition from 5-8pm. Food and refreshments will be provided, as well as time to meet the artist. We can't wait to see you there!
