Dale Partin
Dr. Dale Partin will consider Christian perspectives on the ongoing search for intelligent life in our galaxy.

Many people think that intelligent life is common in our galaxy. Radio astronomers have been trying to detect signals from other star systems since 1960. These studies have been extended to searching for optical signals. Most recently, the atmospheres of nearby exoplanets are being assessed in a search for evidence of life. Subsurface life may even exist in our own Solar System on Mars and on moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Some think that aliens have visited Earth in the past or are here now. Finally, Christian perspectives on these topics will be considered.

Dale Partin earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in physics and a PhD in electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.  He then joined the Physics Department of General Motors Research Laboratories where he did industrial research, resulting in 84 publications in science and engineering journals and 38 U.S. Patents.  He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and a member of Sigma Xi and the American Scientific Affiliation.  In 2014 he joined the faculty of Macomb Community College where he teaches astronomy and is a faculty advisor for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and for the Society for the Unexplained and Paranormal.

He is also active in amateur astronomy. Co-sponsored by the Department of Physics & Astronomy; the Department of Geology, Geography, and Environment; the West Michigan chapter of ASA; and the DeVries Institute
