From being unseen and unacknowledged to being abnormally the center of attention, Black individuals' experiences with ostracism can be psychologically costly. This talk will examine invisibility and hypervisibility, along with the psychological consequences of threatened needs and lower mood, to understand and highlight ways Black individuals encounter types of ostracism and the distinct effects these experiences bring.
