Thinking Historically in a Broken World: Reflections from the Field
Social historian Nancy Jacobs '84 (author of The Global Gray Parrot) and Jeremy Konyndyk '99 (President of Refugees International) reflect on justice in the twenty-first century through the lens of world history.
Nancy Jacobs ('84) is Professor of History at Brown University and a scholar of African history, environmental history, and the social history of human-animal interaction. Her forthcoming book is a transnational history of African Gray Parrots. For more on her work, see this article and watch this video.
Jeremy Konyndyk ('99) is president of Refugees International. He has served in numerous international aid organizations, including the World Health Organization, USAID, Mercy Corps, the American Refugee Committee (now Alight), and the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. He served as director of USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) under President Barak Obama. For more on his work, read this short biography and watch this PBS interview.
