Light Work: Calvin’s Potential Solar Farm

Through a lot of work –- not all of it being ‘light’ work -- this year’s ENGR333 class partnered with ENGR327 and PHYS131 to determine the best places for Calvin University to invest in solar panels to contribute toward our goal of carbon neutrality. By comparing everything from car lots, structurally sound buildings, and accessible plots of land to financials, inverters, batteries, and solar panels, this team of students created multiple possible solar farm designs to help make Calvin’s sunny campus greener. But will their solutions be economically green enough to be an achievable solution to lower Calvin’s carbon emissions? At this seminar, four students will present their class's comprehensive research and results for possible ways to make the sun’s light work for Calvin.
