Ecosystem Preserve & Rock Garden Family Activities

An activity especially for families with kids—but all are welcome to come explore!
Stop by after the Calvin Classic Fun Run (ages 3-9) to explore Calvin's brand new Great Lakes Rock Garden at the Ecosystem Preserve, which features a signature puddingstone as well as other rocks found in Michigan.
The Preserve staff will offer guided exploration in the rock garden as well as the "loose parts play area," where kids can play with sticks, stumps, leaves, and other tree parts. There will be an opportunity for sidewalk chalk art too.
The Bunker Interpretive Center (BIC) will also be open during this activity time—a special Saturday opening for families.
Don't forget to look for a trail mix bar on the plaza!
The two miles of trails at the Ecosystem Preserve, as well as the restrooms in the BIC entryway, are available from 7 a.m. to dusk.
Tip: If you enjoy these rocks, you can also visit the Dice Mineralogical Museum on Homecoming Saturday.
