Winter Celebration Week

As part of Calvin’s 150th anniversary celebration, the “Calvin Stories in the World” series explores the many ways Calvin alumni have lived out their vocations as Christ’s agents of renewal in our world.

We welcome Jeremy Konyndyk and Nancy Jacobs to an alumni + faculty panel discussion for rich conversation about Calvin’s impact as lived out through their careers.

Nancy Jacobs ’84 is a social historian and professor of history at Brown University. She has approached her study of South African and colonial African through the lenses of the environment, power/knowledge relationships, and micro-political negotiations. Her current project involves the transnational history of African Grey Parrots. She is also a member of the Society of Fellows for the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society.

Jeremy Konyndyk ’99, a committed humanitarian advocate and seasoned emergency operator, is president of Refugees International. Prior that role, Jeremy served in the Biden administration as USAID’s lead official for COVID-19 and for the global MPox response. From 2013–2017, Jeremy served in the Obama administration as the director of USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), where he led the U.S. government’s response to international disasters.

With faculty participants:

Chad Tatko, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, Calvin University

Brian Bolt, dean of the School of Education, Calvin University
