Calvin University is required to implement and comply with Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) rules as regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and Pollution Incident Prevention Plan (PIPP) rules as regulated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (MDNRE). Both sets of rules were written to prevent oil, salt, and/or other polluting materials from entering waterways.
Calvin University has merged the two plans (PIPP & SPCC) into one. The plan is intended to provide guidelines to Calvin University for preventing the release of petroleum substances, salt, or other listed polluting materials into the environment, especially to surface waters. The plan provides guidelines for inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency response procedures that will be implemented in the event of an oil, salt, or polluting material spill at the university.
