- B.A., History, Calvin College
- M.A., Museum Studies, University of Leicester, England
I started at Calvin as a student majoring in English and Spanish, but found myself gravitating to the history textbooks in the book store. By sophomore year, with several history courses already completed, I made the change official and became a history major. After graduating from Calvin, I moved to England for graduate school in museum studies. I interned at the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology in Cambridge, and then worked for two years at London's Natural History Museum on a cataloging project.
Five years after graduating, I found myself back at Calvin, working as administrative assistant in the History department. Over the years, my part-time role with history has given me the opportunity to serve in additional roles at Calvin, including three years coordinating the Summer Seminars program. While I remain the administrative assistant for Historical Studies, I'm also working with IT as a member of the Workday project team, writing the job aids and other training and documentation materials for the project.
When I'm not at Calvin, I spend my time making costumes and dressing up as Star Wars characters as a member of the Rebel Legion (an international organization of Star Wars cosplayers who volunteer our time and our costumes to raise money for charities, visit sick children in hospitals, and generally try to make the world a better place, one smile at a time.) You might spot me at the History desk wearing some weird hair styles in preparation for an event later that day, and Baby Yoda has been known to join me in the office. When we're not dressing up as Jedi or wookiees, my husband and I enjoy traveling, binge-watching, and hanging out with our 4 cats.
