For the second year, the alumni association is funding a $1,500 Alumni ArtPrize Award during the Grand Rapids-based ArtPrize open art competition, this year to be held Sept. 21–Oct. 9 throughout the city.

The intent of the three-year grant from the association is to support alumni artists and draw attention to the many gifted graduates who display work in the annual art competition each year. Board leaders hope donors will fund the award after 2017.

Last year, alumna Nora Faber ’98 was the award recipient for her painting “Heavenly Choir.”

Alumni and current Calvin students are eligible to vote for one grad-created art piece during ArtPrize 2016. There is a voting page available at calvin.edu/go/voteartprize and from various Calvin social media pages.

“It costs a lot and takes a lot for artists to be in ArtPrize. It is so helpful for artists to be supported in this way,” Faber said.
