Mrs. Liesl M Zylstra
Biography
Liesl Zylstra joined the Health Services team in the nurse practitioner role in the fall of 2010, initially serving students part-time and in 2015 increased to four days a week. Prior to her role in Health Services, she worked for eleven years in the NP role in Hastings, Michigan. Before graduate school Liesl worked in the RN role in the surgical intensive care unit at Blodgett Hospital.
Liesl began teaching full-time in the Nursing Department, here at Calvin in the fall of 2024, and continues serving clients in Health Services one day a week. “Partnering with students/faculty and staff for health care on a university campus is a unique and special opportunity. Clients bring a variety of backgrounds, questions, and health care needs.” Liesl enjoys providing care for acute health concerns (cough, sore throat, skin issues) and longer-term health needs (asthma, acne, mental health). Liesl offers a holistic approach to care by discussing physical, mental/emotional, spiritual and relational health individually and how these aspects of wellness impact a person’s overall health. This approach to care is central to Liesl’s role as a clinician. Additionally, dialogue about health prevention and promotion is exciting with university clients who are curious learners and desire to care for themselves into the future.
Outside of work Liesl enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, baking, travel, exercising and playing pickle ball.
