Improve your SAT or ACT score

Each fall semester, up to 40 high school students participate in a six-week session in which Calvin students provide SAT or ACT tutoring assistance. (Spring tutoring, though offered in the past, will not be offered this year.)

The Excel SAT/ACT Tutoring Program is available to 9th through 12th grade students from the greater Grand Rapids area.

Tutoring sessions are scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday from 4:00–5:00 p.m. or 4:30–5:30 p.m. Sessions are assigned according to participant and tutor availability, and according to participant grade and prior test score.

Virtual parent orientation will be held October 5.

A program fee of $100 must be paid by in order to secure your space in the program (check, cash, or money order). The program fee includes a test prep book, which will be the student’s to keep.

To register for the Excel Program, please submit the following items no later than September 17, 2021.

  1. Register by September 17.
  2. Your $100 enrollment fee (check, cash, or money order) to: College Access Programs, 3201 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Check should be made out to Calvin University; in the memo line, specify tutoring and the student's name.
  3. A PDF of your prior SAT or ACT score, emailed to collegeaccess@calvin.edu. Scores from an official exam or a practice SAT/ACT are acceptable; we will accept PSAT scores.
    You may choose to take an SAT practice test online or to print one and take it on paper. For a practice ACT, please email collegeaccess@calvin.edu to receive a printable test.
  4. A signed waiver form.
