This course focuses on how leaders in Kenya and East Africa develop businesses, provide health care, organize government and education, respond to crises, address poverty and issues of justice, promote community development and micro-finance, and conduct worship. Students hear lectures from Kenyan leaders and travel to site locations to see leadership in action. Students examine leadership and culture in both urban and rural areas, with an eye to the leadership and partnership role Americans may have in East Africa. Students will be required to read selected materials before departure, report on and lead discussions on them, take quizzes, write reflection papers, and journal daily.
