This international study course will immerse students in the world of graphic design through a lens of cultural exploration, artistic intervention, and collaborative engagement. Participants will explore the theme of embeddedness—how graphic design interacts with culture, space, and history—while also engaging in creative artistic interventions that transform or challenge these environments. Through exploration, research, and collaboration with local artists, designers, educators, and communities, students will develop a deep understanding of global context for design. This course will allow students to not only hone their individual design skills but also collaborate in a cross-cultural environment to push the boundaries of graphic design as an art form.A subsequent spring section, ARTS 387A; Global Regions and Cultures: Exhibition, will produce a final exhibition showcasing the collective works of the student participants.
