Business Partners Awards Luncheon focuses on employee engagement
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, Calvin College will host its annual Calvin Business Partners Awards Luncheon. The event honors businesses and individuals that have partnered with the college’s business program to create outstanding learning opportunities for students and engages the broader community in discussion about a topic of interest through a keynote address.
This year’s keynote speaker is Tracy Brower, author of Bring Work to Life by Bringing Life to Work and the global vice president of workplace vitality at Mars Drinks. Brower is an expert in organizational effectiveness and the sociology of work; how people impact their work-life, and how their work-life affects them.
In her keynote address at Calvin titled “Bring Work to Life: The Power of Calling,” she will share insights from her recently published book, “Bring Work to Life by Bringing Life to Work.” She’ll lay out a vision of how weaving work-life supports into the fabric of an organizational culture can help companies attract, engage and retain great talent that will help an organization achieve its desired results.
Following Brower’s talk, Calvin will recognize a few outstanding partners for their continued commitment to Calvin’s business program. Plante Moran will be awarded the outstanding corporate partner award and Tom Nobel (Baruch Senior Ministries), Amy Ruis (Art of the Table), Lori Feenstra (Calvin College) and Cindy Wolffis (Calvin College) will be honored as outstanding partners.
“We seek to actively engage the business community, the community of practice, in our work at Calvin with students,” said Bob Eames, director of the Calvin Center for Innovation in Business. “To that end, we seek to build lasting partnerships with businesses that work with us to provide our students with amazing internships and CAP projects, which add a strong experiential learning component to our curriculum and give students the opportunity to wrestle with real-world problems.”
The Calvin Annual Fund and the Calvin Center for Innovation in Business are hosting the event, which will be held in The Great Hall of Calvin’s Prince Conference Center. A networking reception begins at 11:30 a.m., with the luncheon to follow at noon. Brower will be signing copies of her new book after the event.
