Course Spotlight

KIN 515 Principles of Cardiac Rehabilitation

In this course, students will examine models of cardiac rehabilitation program delivery from inpatient to post-rehabilitation care. Cardiac disease patients and special demographic populations will be studied, including modifiable lifestyle practices such as nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular risk factors, behavior modification, program adherence, and management of potential emergencies. Students will gain skills in administrative and managerial procedures, program assessment, and case management.

KIN 545 Clinical Exercise Physiology

In this course, students will study the clinical aspects of exercise physiology including fundamental knowledge of disease-specific pathology and treatment guidelines. Exercise testing and training principles for patients with chronic diseases and disabilities will be examined, including metabolic, respiratory, immune, neuromuscular, and bone and joint disorders. Special populations studied will include children, elderly, and pregnant and post-partum women.

Performance and Sport Science Concentration

Combine essential physiology education with the skills it takes to impact the performance of diverse athletes.

Through instruction on advanced strength and tactical conditioning, the program delivers the expertise and credential required to sit for National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) exams and advance your career as a certified exercise science professional. You’ll graduate prepared for exams like

  • Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F) certificate
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam
  • The upcoming Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) certification

Course Spotlight

KIN 528 Advanced Strength and Tactical Conditioning

In this course, students will apply scientific knowledge to train individuals for the primary goal of improving athletic and job performance. They will design sport-specific testing sessions, implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs, and integrate general guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. Students will also learn to how to design and facilitate strength training programs to increase the performance, readiness, and longevity of tactical professionals while decreasing the likelihood of fitness-related injuries. 

KIN 530 Injury Prevention and Return to Play

In this course, students will apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, motor learning, functional movement, and strength and conditioning to injury prevention and return to play and activity. Students will learn how to identify individuals and situations which contribute toward higher risk of injury, as well as design appropriate training and conditioning programs for prevention and mitigation.

Admission Requirements 

  • Degree and Minimum GPA: Bachelor’s degree in allied health, exercise science, health promotion, psychology, sports management, or related wellness area from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum 2.8 GPA. 
  • Transcripts: Applicants must submit an official transcript from the institution that granted their bachelor’s degree as well as unofficial transcripts from any other credit-granting institution. An official transcript is also required for any graduate work an applicant would like considered for transfer credit. Transcripts must demonstrate a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. 
  • Official GMAT/GRE: Not required 
  • Additional Requirements: A personal statement, two letters of recommendation and a resume must be submitted.
