Asian Studies Major, Minor

Undergraduate Program On Campus

What You'll Learn

Calvin’s Asian studies program is one of the best in the U.S. Your studies begin with language, but encompass much more.

You’ll explore the philosophy, religion, art, and history of Asian cultures and nations. But you won’t just learn in the classroom—you’ll take your learning abroad with a semester in China, Japan, or Korea. You might also spend an interim in places like India, Nepal, South Korea, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, or Japan.

Fields like international development, business, education, and missions need people who can engage confidently with the diverse peoples and cultures of Asia. With a major or minor in Asian studies, you'll bring new depth and opportunity to any career.

What Makes This Program Great

  • Committed teachers Your professors weave their Christian faith through every course, event, and activity. They'll work with you to chart out your academic and career goals, and make a plan to achieve them.

  • Study abroad Off-campus study is an integral part of the Asian studies program. You'll have opportunities to spend an interim or entire semester in Asia.

  • Complements other degrees The Asian studies program is designed to fit nicely alongside other majors and minors, and works especially well when paired with majors or minors in Chinese or Japanese language.
